HAPPINESS
A dark tragicomic satire about our unaffordable cities and our ageing population.
-
Vera, aged 64, a failed entrepreneur and the daughter of two former hippies, inherits a care home in Lisbon from her parents — and with it, a huge debt, a licence hanging in the balance, and several octogenarians who have no intention of leaving. When a French corporation tries to buy the building to turn it into a luxury spa, Vera prepares to sell. But the residents, the ghost of her mother and her own conscience will force her to choose between the profit she has always craved and the dignity she never knew she possessed.
